Breaking Lines in a Poem

I honestly have no idea on how to really break a line properly or in any sort of order; except for what comes naturally. Sometimes i’ll find myself doing 4-line stanzas or 5-line stanzas, but i may get to a stanza where it completely breaks that tempo. In the end I suppose what really matters is moreso what the poem calls for, rather than having a standard format.
